Membership Policies are posted on the website — Please read carefully!
The Club Season Schedule is posted on the website. Please refer to it regularly, information and events may change.
All this information will be posted on the Club Website at http://www.rmjackrabbits.com. Please forward any additional information or suggestions about what you would like to see on the website.
All communication will be done via email and the website. Please check regularly and prior to heading out to ski on Sundays. If you do not have access to email or the internet, please let David (286-7772) know and someone will contact you directly.
The official cut off for skiing is −20 including wind chill. Cancellations will be emailed to members and posted on the website. It may be −30 in Calgary but with temperature inversions, it may be warmer in the mountains. Please check Environment Canada's web site for current temperatures at Calgary, Bow Valley, and Nakiska. If the temperature is getting warmer as you move west, there is a good possibility that the club will ski.
If you are unable to attend a given Sunday lesson, please call (day of)/email (with notice) all leaders involved with your children. This allows the leaders to adjust lesson plans for smaller groups, combine groups and know who is in attendance from a safety perspective.
Lessons start at 1:00 p.m. Skiers should be dressed and on waxed skis (unless skating) by 1:00 p.m. Group warm-ups may take place. Leaders will not be able to wait for latecomers. If you are late, you are responsible for either ensuring that your child catches up to the group or skiing with your child that day. This is an important safety issue to ensure that children are not left unsupervised on the ski trails.
One parent must ski with each child in the Bunny group. Group leaders of other groups will specify how many parents are needed to ski with the group and will assist parents in coordinating a schedule so that all parents have the opportunity to ski with their children and also have the opportunity to attend the parents lessons that will be held at the same time. Other parents may wish to ski on their own if they are not "on duty" with their child's group.
The first two Sundays will focus on ensuring that skiers are in suitable groups, based on skill, skier style, age, and social interaction. Movement of skiers between groups is minimized after the first two weeks to allow for continuity in instruction. Some movement may occur after JOD, as needed, for "fast learners." All movement decisions are mutually made between parents, skiers, coach and leaders involved. The 3rd last Sunday is "Evaluation Day" for skiers.
Often skiers are over-dressed and carry too much in their backpacks. Fanny packs with water bottle holders are adequate for the Canmore Nordic Centre given the proximity to the Chalet. Skiers are encouraged to only carry water, a nutritious snack and a spare pair of mitts/gloves. On tour days or when access to facilities is more limited, a small backpack may be needed. Keep in mind that skiers can tie jackets around their waists, and that heavy backpacks make it harder for them to focus on their ski technique and enjoyment.
The club receives a discount on ski passes for the days that we ski there. The Nordic Centre prefers that passes for club members be purchased as a group. The President will be available at least half an hour prior to club meeting time to collect cash for the passes, and will purchase these 15 minutes prior to club meeting time. If you wish to ski earlier in the day, or if you arrive too late to pay the President for your passes, please purchase your passes at the ticket office. Remember to let the staff know that you are a club member so that you receive the club discount. They will have your family name on a master list. Leaders are given complimentary passes.
